State Annotated, Revised Codes

Statutes

Also known as administrative code or rules, statutes provide the vehicle for the court to make rulings and enforce orders. To better understand the nature of law, complicated legal proceedings, and basis of upon which the court may render a judgment; familiarity with the jurisdictional statutes is an important aspect for self-awareness and education. It is of particular value to parents who would help guide their attorney in formulating an effective strategy, and thus better avoid the many legal and financial pitfalls of relying entirely upon a perception of “fairness” to negotiate the system of due process.

Two very useful sites that offer direct access to state divorce, custody and support laws are the Law Librarian’s Society of Washington, DC at: http://www.llsdc.org/sourcebook/state-leg.htm; and the Cornell Law School, Legal Information Institute at: http://www.law.cornell.edu/topics/state_statutes.html.
