History and Accomplishments
Highlights of Accomplishments - 2006
- The French Ambassador to the United States, Jean David-Levitte and Madame Levitte, hosted a charity benefit for CRC at their residence on March 22, 2006. More than 125 socially prominent Washingtonians attended this event for the purpose of increasing awareness throughout the U.S. and France.
- More than 300 college student interns from around the country have enjoyed a meaningful Washington experience by interning for a semester with CRC. In recognition of this important service, The Washington Center (one of the largest national organizations that place college students with internships in the Washington, D.C. area) presented CRC as the “Non-Profit Intern Provider of the Year’ award in 2006.
- CRC launched a new website, www.CRCkids.org offering general users and members unparalleled levels of access to family law practices, custody and access resources, shared parenting education, child support enforcement procedures, social research, and legislative initiatives at the Federal and state levels.
- CRC and its chapters now operate 44 Child Access Centers in 13 states and Washington, D.C. Most of these centers provide for neutral drop-off and pick-up of children, and supervised access (visitation), but one Center in Washington, D.C., also offers parenting education, counseling, mediation, and parent training for former prisoners who have children and who are re-entering the community.
- The CRC National Office received a 25 percent over-all increase in grants this past year. We are grateful to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Circuit Court in Prince George’s County, the Child Support Office in Washington, D.C., for a grant administered by the District of Columbia Superior Court, the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the Dresher Foundation, Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson, and Councilmembers Will Campus and Samuel Dean for their support.
- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reported that more than 750,000 families have been helped with the $10 million a year across and visitation programs much of which the initial funding is credited to the advocacy of CRC.
