History and Accomplishments
Highlights of Accomplishments - 2005
- The Bush Administration proposed doubling of access (visitation) funds to the states from $10 million a year to $20 million a year, over a period of five years. The recommendation awaits passage in Congress, but CRC continues to press for approval.
- The Children’s Rights Council published a Judges’ Access Centers Handbook, designed to familiarize the bench with the benefits and processes of making court-ordered referrals to families involved in highly conflicted disputes of custody and access. Developed by CRC, the 32 page pamphlet was designed and printed by the generous support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg graciously granted an in-depth private audience with several representatives (staff and interns) of the Children’s Rights Council. The discussion focused on current and future advocacy perspectives of children and families and the role of the legal system to ensure the best interests of children.
- Dwight Twilley the legendary pop star, CRC spokesperson, and native Oklahoman, held benefit performances on behalf of the Children’s Rights Council in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 26-27, 2005.
