Highlights of Accomplishments - 1999
- Released “Top 10 States to Raise a Child” report to immediate national attention, appearing on such programs as The Today Show, CBS This Morning, CNN, as well as approximately 1,500 newspapers and another 1,500 radio stations.
- Led successful effort for a second year in a row to defeat an anti-joint custody (shared parenting) resolution in the US House of Representatives.
- Assisted in advocating for passage of the “Fathers’ Count” bill in the House that would have provided more funding for fatherhood programs around the country.
- Hosted 12th national conference “Keeping Children First in the 21st Century” in Alexandria, Virginia with special guest speakers Lady Catherine Meyer, Hon. David Gray Ross, Kathleen Parker, and Cathy Young.
- Promoted the school-based “Banana Splits” program to help children of separation and divorce channel the transition in their lives into stronger academic achievement.
- Expanded network of Chapters to Alaska, Alabama, Connecticut, West Virginia and Philadelphia.
- Sponsored by Senator Bob Graham (D-FL), the U.S. Senate passed a resolution creating a National Child’s Day as the first Sunday in June.
